In the Beginning...
The Heisler Family moved to Oakley in 1951. Vernon and Ruth frequented a small neighborhood bar called The Pub Cafe. In 1963, Vernon and Ruth decided to buy that local bar so that they could call it their own. There were many changes throughout the years with people coming and going as well as cosmetic changes to the inside and outside of the building. Unfortunately along the way The Pub Cafe lost one of its owners way too young. Vernon Heisler passed away at the early age of 49 in 1974. After 20 years of ownership Vernon and Ruth's daughter, Jackie, took over The Pub Cafe in 1983. Even with new ownership the spirit of The Pub Cafe prevailed. In 1991, Jackie received a call informing her that there were flames bursting from the roof. During that time, The Pub family rallied to re-open the doors within a month of the fire. In 1998, The Pub went through the loss of it's matriarch, Ruth Heisler. We still miss her Icky Woods dance during the Bengals games and her infectious laugh and love of life. Through all of the ups and downs of life and business The Pub Cafe has continued to be an Oakley institution. Although The Pub family has changed through the years with a lot of the original customers passing on, we have continued their traditions and created some new ones. In 2013 we will celebrate 50 years of ownership. We hope you will be with us to celebrate!
